I have xp home recently downloaded service pack2. Just got broadband had been
on dialup. Fiewall service is running. Problem is windows firewall control
panel firewall is set to off and its grayed out so you cant change it. I have
tried editing the netfw.ini and resetting witrh the netsh command still no
luck. I have downloaded zonealarm free version for the mean time but i would
like to get windowds firewall working. Thanks in advance for any help i can
get. Art

I can't give you a solution, other than the fact that zonealarm is a much
better firewall - why would you want to use Windows' firewall instead?

I just mainly want to have it working. Dont like things have problems. Im
fine with zone alarm. I'm just bothered by the fact that its grayed out and
the blue area at the top of the control panel that tells you the status
states that a group policy is in affect on the computer and its xp home and
never even been on a domain.

Recently tried "One Care" that made that change to the firewall settings.
Uninstalling the program reverted control to me but it left the group
policy message at the top of the firewall page. If One Care was tried on
this system, suggest checking the newsgroups for that beta program. One
