is there any possible way i can backup my entire system
the way it is now so in case i mess up reformatting my
computer i have that/those disk(s) to fall back on? i
looked it up but it says i need the cd and my computer
didn't come with one because it was already loaded. any
suggestions/help? i could really use it. if you have AIM
send me a msg on there telling me how. screen name: xoidax

thank you.

You can use the Files and Settings Tranfer Wizard. This will package all of
your data and settings (You will have to reinstall the applications). Use
the following KB article as a reference:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293118.

I would also back up the data (for redundancy sake). You can use the backup
utility in Windows XP located under System Tools and back up the data to
another drive, ZipDisk, etc.

okay you said "You can use the backup utility in Windows
XP located under System Tools" well i went to System
Tools and there is no "backup utility"...so i'm pretty
much lost...anymore advice?

thank you.

You should use a third party app to do a full system backup. The Backup
program that can be installed on XP Home from the XP CD cannot complete an
ASR (Automated System Recovery). Even if it could it still couldn't backup
to CD.

Decent imaging programs that work well with XP include Norton Ghost 2003,
Powerquest Drive Image and BootIt NG. A Google search will get you info on
any of these.

I'll go along with Harry's suggestion of Drive Image. I installed a 2nd
hard drive and I use Drive Image to occasionally make an image of my XP
disk. This allows me to recreate my XP disk in case of a major hardware or
software malfunction in a matter of minutes, something no backup program
would be able to do. I also keep copies of my data, email msgs, address
book and favorites on the 2nd disk.
