I am trying to reload Windows XP and I have used my Maxtor
Hard Drive to format the drive. When XP begins to load it
doesn't recognize the partition and unpartitioned space
and wants to reformat which I have tried. It says that
the drive is either full or damaged. I have tried this
with 3 different drives including one that was brand new.
I just flashed the bios. I don't know what else to do.
Please help!!

What I meant to say was the Maxtor utility MaxBlast3 to
format the drive.

Hi Bryant,

Are you partitioning with the Maxblast software? Don't - just leave the disk
blank.

That could well be the problem. That Maxblast application often
renders drives unusable to WinNT-based operating systems. Remove it
and its affects, and try again using only WinXP's native tools.

I thought that might be what you meant Bryant. As others have pointed out
MaxBlast is likely your problem. Run the app and it should have an uninstall
feature. If not boot with the XP CD and follow the instructions here on How
to Partition http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm using the
Recovery Console. Remove all partitions and create a new Partition. Once
you've done that you should be able to install XP.

Format the drive and then use Fdisk to setup your partitions. I also tried
to use MaxBlast but found it was more trouble then it was worth. That was
almost 2 years ago so don't ask me for step by step instructions. <grin>
