Please explain exactly what you're trying to accomplish.
Replacing XP Home with XP Home doesn't, on the face of it, make
any sense.

I accidently removed some of the Windows XP Hotfixes! I thought if I
re-install or in-place upgrade that this will fix the problem!

Reinstalling won't put back the hotfixes. Why not just redownload
and reinstall the missing hotfixes?

Hi, Belinda.

As Ken just said, and as Ron Martell told you in response to your other
post, all you really need to do is what you should have been doing all
along: Visit Windows Update regularly (at least once a week) and accept the
updates offered there for free.

And be sure to turn on Automatic Updates. Either tell it to download and
install updates as they become available, or to download them and let you
choose when to install them - and then install them as soon as you can.

The in-place upgrade will ERASE any hotfixes newer than the version of WinXP
that is on the CD-ROM that you use for the reinstallation. In other words,
if you already have some post-SP2 hotfixes installed, an in-place upgrade
with even the latest WinXP CD-ROM (including SP2) will eliminate those late
hotfixes and you will have to go to Windows Update to get them again. In
other words, after the expense and effort of doing the in-place upgrade,
you'll be back to just about where you are now. :>(

There are times when the in-place upgrade is a lifesaver! This is not one
of them.

And as MS only release updates once a MONTH, that's pretty pointless, isn't
it?

Don't forget that Windows Update site has now changed to Microsoft update so
not only are Windows operating system updates available but also updates for
Microsoft Office. So it is worth visitng the update site regularly. okay
Windows operating system critical updates may not be available at the time,
but there may be driver updates and updates for Microsoft Office- should you
use Office, of course.

Personally I would never load the driver updates from the MS site.
Get them from the manufacturer.

Yes you can do this however there are a couple of issues
1) If you have upgraded to SP2 and your XP Home version doesn't have SP2
integrated you will encounter an error message if you try to run the
Install->Setup->Upgrade [recommended]. You be told that your version of XP
is newer than the version on the disk. However if you follow the
instructions here you can create a slipstream version of XP Home that will
have SP2 fully integrated http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm .
Of course if your version of XP Home already has SP2 integrated (it will say
so on the CD) then you don't need to do the slipstream.

2) A Repair Install (over the top install like you mention) will delete
Hotfixes that have been developed since the XP was created. You will need to
revisit the Windows Update Site and reapply patches again.
