I have 4 XP home computer connected to a Win2k server.
The server have a shared folder and 2 shared DVD drives.
I added users on the server that correpondes to the users
on the 4 XP home computer. The XP home computer maps to
the server with no problem. This is the problem: When I
reboot the XP Home computers, the network drives are not
connected. When I go in My Computer, all the mapped
network drives are disconneted. By double cliking on the
disconneted drives, the drives connect. I would like the
mapped drives reconnect upon boot up. Thanks for any help

Since its XP Home, you'll need to write a windows login script to remap the
drives each time they are present - that's the downside of XP Home and
networks - it can access them and use shared resources, it just can't join
them or make drive mappings permanent.

I need an example script to go by. Once the script is
wriiten I will create a .bat file and put in startup

i had the same problem with win2kpro just can handle 8
conections i changed to server 2003

This does not seem to hold true on my system. My problem
is that 1 user reconnects unfailingly and another user
fails always.

I have a customer that now has an XP Home box. It has been
added to an existing network consisting of:

1 - Win 2000 Professional - Acting as file server
\\pos-server\D
3 - Win 98se - Point of Sale terminals.
1 - Win 98se - Back Office Workstation.

I have added the XP unit and have it functioning on the
network with one small problem.

There are 2 users allowed on the XP unit. The owner and
myself. If I login, using my login password the network
drives re-connect automatically. If I use the owners login
the network drives fail to re-connect and I have to browse
to the server and re-enter the share user name and
password. [This been setup as GUEST with a password of 1]

I have disconnected the network drive and re-mapped
{several times} making sure that the re-connect on login
box is checked. I have even tried the "connect using a
different user and password" choice all to no avail.

One thing that I have noticed is that my login id and
password are the same on both units [XP and 2000]. The
owners are not.

In addition, I have noticed when I browse using the owners
login and go to the POS-SERVER there are no shared drives
listed. I have to use the explorer and OPEN the POS-SERVER
and supply the user name and password to see the shared D
drive and shared Data directories. I have tried changing
the XP login name on my profile to the owner and changing
to his password and the "problem" followed. {If this comes
down to a resolution of having the user id and password
identical on the XP unit and the 2000 unit WHY}

I have my customer limping along using the explorer browse
and login "FIX" for now, but would like to resolve this issue.

Thank you for your valuable time in advance.
