Greetings,
I know that WindowsXP Pro has a backup utility. Does WindowsXP Home ?

thanks,

I'm new to XP (installing this weekend), so....

.....if you're referring to a utility to back up YOUR data files, and it's as
awful as the version that came with Win98, you are much better off paying
for software that does what backup software should do. If not, it's useless.

Yes, Darryl. "System Restore" backs up each of the last 90 days. You can
also choose a Restore Point yourself.

One important caveat: System Restore only restores system files
and settings. It does nothing to protect data files.

System restore does NOT backup data files.

....which means "the work you create and will miss when it vanishes" (in case
the meaning of "data files" isn't clear to the original writer).

And, it WILL vanish. It's just a question of when, and who in your home you
can blame for it.

System restore is *not* a backup utility. It backs up the system,
but does nothing for the data files you've created,

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on
XP Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the
CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by
doubleclicking the file ntbackup.msi.

The answer is actually both yes and maybe. The retail CD has it but does
not install it by default; but OEM disks sometimes do not include the
\VALUEADD folder that contains the backup installer. If you have only a
'system restore' disk which sets the machine back to its shipping state,
it's probably not included. And some vendors don't include disks at all.

So it depends on the particular type of CD, if any, that you have.
