XP Home automatically rebooting

My PC will not boot up to the desktop. It gets as far as
the XP home screen and then reboots itself. It will
finally ask me if I want to start in Safe mode, etc and
when I choose Safe Mode, it will reboot and starts the
cycle over...never allowing me to get to the desktop.
Any ideas? I've checked the MS help screen, but couldn't
find anything that looked like it would help. THANK YOU

Try Jim's start up/shutdown troubleshooting page...

Thanks..it looks like a good page, but nothing on there
about PC not booting to the desktop. If I could get to
the desktop that would be a huge plus...then I could at
least back up my files before I run my system restore
disk.

It /is/ a good page - and exactly the right one. Boot to Safe mode, then
Start>Right click My computer> Properties > Advanced > Click Settings under
Startup and recovery > Remove tick from 'automatically reboot'.

There's an alternative, if the worst happens or you never
can start it normally.
Pull up your Hard drive from the case and put in an
another PC as a slave. That way, at least you can recover
your data of the hard drive.
