I Have XP home on my laptop which is fine for what I use it for, Just
occasionally however I connect it to our school network (server 2003) to
print and load /save files to my account. Printing works fine but all of a
sudden instead of getting a login prompt when accessing my account I get
'You don't have access ... Contact network administrator' I contacted them
and they say they haven't changed anything. I dont want to upgrade to Pro.
Anybody have an idea on how to get back to the previous situation??

Thanx for any help

Well, XP Home can't join a domain, so you must have been using some other
authentication method, VPN?

If we knew how you had been accessing the domain, we might be able to
suggest some possibilites.

Well, I would just connect the cable into a free socket, Search for a
computer, when it found the 'computer' (server name) I would navigate to the
folder needed double click on it and up pops a little box (with head on
LHS), I entered my username and password (for that network) and it would
give me access :-) , I do exactly the same now but when I double click on
the folder it gives me the error message and no login box!! Hope this
answers your question? (No change of protocols or anything else that I am
aware of;-( )

As Scott stated, Home cannot join a domain - so you must have been using
3rd-party software. To join a domain directly requires XP Pro.

Not necessarily, the OP can connect/access a domain if his/her
machine's workgroup name is the same as the domain name. As long as
the OP has a *valid* account in the domain, the server will allow
access to the domain without any special software. But Home cannot
*join* the domain, that is the one thing among others that makes Home
different from Pro.
