I restored my computer back to the way it was when i first bought it and it
has windows ME on and i want to upgrade it to XP and during install. I get
this error stop: 0x0000007B(0XF898963C,0XC0000034,0X00000000,0X00000000)
I dont have anything new as for hardware. I am thinking it might be a boot
sector error and i dont have any 3rd party software or hardward to use a
install cd to fix it I am not sure what to do I had XP on this computer for 3
years and never had a problem until i tried a recovery. Right now my computer
has windows ME and is working great. I did reformat my hard drive and did i
new recovery, any help would be great thank you very much

Go here and check to make sure your system can run XP.

A Stop 0X0000007B means among other things that XP was unable to locate
the system partition orboot volumne during the startup you might try
looking at the Microsoft knowledge base for a more specific answer. I
know that this error may occur after repartitioning the drive.

Good luck,
Rick

Thanks Guys I did everything you asked and i can update from ME and
everything will work with XP
Still getting the same error

There are several articles here: http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
that deal with the 7B stop error. Perhaps one of them will have something
that will help you past this point in the XP setup.

Also.. if you have any zip or external USB drives attached during setup,
disconnect them. If you continue to have trouble, try installing with just
the bare necessities attached - monitor, keyboard, mouse, primary hard
drive and a cdrom drive. Once XP is in, add the other hardware (and
drivers). Suggest doing this one device at a time.

Try doing a clean install by booting from the CD. Has any hardware changed
since you originally upgraded it three years ago?
