XP has me beaten, even bought a new modem to fix this

Hello,
After upgrading to Win XP Pro 2002 sp1 recognises the internal modem
correctly, however it will not install the latest driver for it. The error
message simply says that Windows was unable to install the modem. Error
number 28 is reported. I have tried purchassing a new modem with no success.
I have tried
changing PCI slots & swapping slots with other cards. Tried deleting old
network settings & uninstalling modem then cold booting, same problem again.
Tried running home network setup wizard too.

Any brave person willing to test their expertise on this one is welcome.
It has me totally stumped.

Have you tried to install it in safe mode? Also try to install from control
panel, new hardware and be sure the path to the driver is correct.

Hi

What is the old/new modems and drivers you are using
Are the drivers XP compatible

Try this way
Right click My Computer/Properties/Harware
Click the Driver Signing button, select "Warn-Prompt me each time to select action", click OK, then reboot

Hope it helps

Pete
