Sean I have been having the same problem. While running
in safe mode, run your Computer Management program (you
can find that in your control panel under adminstrative
tools)under system tools there is an event viewer select
system and you will se a list of information and errors
your problem will be listed there if ther are too many
clear all events and reboot your computer normally when it
hangs up it will create an event by checking the
properties (right clicking on the event)of that event it
will either give you an option to fix it or that you can
track down the source. Mine happens to be the drivers for
my ACPI bios are out of date soe how after using Xp for 6
months now I think I lost them to a virusbut I hope this
helps you out. If you have the same problem as I and you
find a solution please drop me a line

Sean I hope you are still checking in on your post I
think I may have found the solution to both our
problems. If you were having the same error message as I
this is how I fixed it. Under my device manager I
selected the ACPI PC and selected to update driver. I
selected Install from specific location, then selected
don't search I will choose driver to install. then a list
of Hardware popped up and there was my standard PC as
well as the ACPI PC. I selected the standard again and it
began the plug and play search for new hardware after it
installed it's driver, it took a while but it found all
my stuff and it has been working ever since. Now if I
were you I would only do this if your computer had been
working well before the upgrade and you were having the
same error in your event viewer. I hope this helps and
if not well maybe it will work for your fault as well.
Good luck and drop me a line if you have more questions
or if you get your PC up and running again.
Al
