Does the Windows XP firewall get disabled by default? I
have always wondered about that because some people have
it running and some people don't. Or does it just get
enabled by default when you run the XP Wizard?

This depends on how one answers a question asked by the
initial setup wizard. The wizard asks "how do you
connect to the internet?" If you choose Cable modem/DSL
as your option, the built-in firewall in XP will be
enabled. If you choose "by LAN or Local area network" as
your method for connecting to the internet, the xp
firewall will not be turned on. It all depends on which
option you choose in this part of the initial setup.
