Whenever I try to enable the XP firewall, I get an error
message:
Cannot enable Shared access
Error 1003: Cannot complete this function

Any ideas?

Sorry you're having problems, but note that if you'd patched your system
regularly with Windows Update, had a firewall, and good AV software to begin
with, you would not be having this problem. The patch has been available for
nearly a month now.

You are responsible for maintaining your own computer, no matter what
operating system you use. If more people start to use use Macs/Linux, you
can bet your bootie there will be more hack attempts against them, more
viruses, etc...and there is no OS in the world that requires no thought or
manual intervention to keep running properly.

The OS is immaterial - the responsibility still lies with the owner.

The virus isn't the issue - the vulnerability is the issue. MSBlast didn't
seem to be causing damage, but there are plenty of others Perhaps the patch
didn't install correctly - did it show up in add/remove programs? I've heard
of instances where it did not install fully....perhaps that's what happened
to you?

Do you have a firewall installed now?
