I have been looking around for a similar post, and have
not been able to find an answer. I am attempting to
enable the ICF feature in windows XP Home, and have been
unsuccessful in my attempts. When I click to enable the
firewall, I get an error message stating that, "An error
occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being
enabled. The Dependency service or group failed."

My cpu is not connected to a VPN, or any other networking
device other then the Cable Modem itself. The only thing
I can think of is that I am running the cpu with 4
profiles, and perhaps it's getting confused thinking there
needs to be a ICS, but the other profiles work fine how
they are. Thanks in advance for any advice.

For ICF, the following services must be enabled:
1. Application Layer Gateway
2. Network Connections
3. Network Local Awareness
4. Remote Access Connection manager

Enable those services using Services.msc applet.
Click [Start] [Run] [Services.msc]
make all to "Automatic"

Hi Brian
Just a suggestion.
Perhaps go with ZoneAlarm or Sygate firewall. Both are freeware
and do a much better job of protecting your machines.

Hmm, they shouldn't all be automatic. You need to be careful when playing
with service startup.

As for the original problem, this is the usual suspect

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP

I am getting the same error message. I can't seem to
figure out the problem. If you get help please send it
over to me. I really don't want to reinstall Windows.

Thanks,

Monica
