I've downloaded free Sunbelt Kerio firewall and, as a non-techie, have opted
for the Simple mode rather than the Advanced mode. But looking at the help
info, I was surprised to read that "in simple mode, the firewall allows all
outgoing information." Does this mean that it does no more than the WinXP
firewall?
Thanks.

That's what it sounds like. Poke around in the advanced mode and look for a
setting that allows you to create rules as things happen. Setting a firewall
is a rather personal thing as each person likes and wants different things
so it may take a little while for you to fully tune it to suit your
particular needs but you'll get it figured out eventually.
