I have XP pro SP2 and have just noticed that my MS Firewall is not on.

I tried to put it on but it said I had Group Policy On.

I am the only admin and set it all up myself.

This business box accesses a LAN and a Gateway Router and is on the
internet most of the day as a web designer.

It accesses and is accessed by others on the LAN.

I looked and saw there were quite a few Firewall exceptions such as ..

svchost
Run Dll as App
UpnP Framewoek
Tbired
FFox
Messenger
AVG Anti Virus files
Ms DirectPlay Voice Test
Skype

The Advanced Tab says both 1394 and LAN IS Firewalled. No services can
be accessed via internet.

Just wondered if I need to have it differently.

Thanks

Several advanced Internet security software packages will turn off the
MS XP SP2 firewall so that their software firewall will be used.

What anti-virus / Internet "access" security software are you using?

If group policy has it turned off, then you will need to use the group
policy editor to turn it on.

Start -> Run -> "gpedit.msc"

Then look under:
Computer configuration -> Administrative Templates ->Network ->
Network Connections -> Windows Firewall ->
Then Domain Profile or Standard Profile as applicable.

Thanks guys,

It would be because of the virus and spyware I have running then.

I was hit with a 'Total Security' virus recently so I am now very
cautious.

On my desktop I have..
AVG 8.5 FREE
Ad-aware
Dr Web
Malwayebytes
Spyware Terminator
CC Cleaner
Spyware Blasetr

I am checking mus system with these..
RootRepea
HiJack This
Procexp
SysProt

I now get a message from AVG and Dr Web that I have an
\drivers\agp440.sys infected with a (AVG) Trojan Generic and DrWeb)
Trojan.Download.47257

It is 93k in size and I am not sure whether I should delete it as AVG
says that it is a critical system file and should not be deleted. The
size of it however according to Ms is a big file not this size.

Any ideas?

Thanks

BTW

I have also somehow been attacked on my Linux shared server where I have
client websites. It was changing all my index files by inserting an
iframe into them so they would fall over. It is from .ru and my support
tells me it is coming in from ftp and only on my my sites as it did not
effect any other sites on the server.

Because of this when I ftp'd in, I had been getting inadvertently
sometimes downloading an index file. Fortunately my XP box picked them
up, however I still think I have a rootkit virus somewhere on my XP box.
I am awaiting HT logs posted to the Spy forums.
