When I try to enable the firewall in Windows XP (home
edition) from the Network Connections check box option
("protect my computer and network by limiting or
preventing access to this computer from the Internet"), I
receive the following error message: "An error has
occurred while Internet connection file sharing was being
enabled. The dependency service or group failed to
start."

I am logged on as "administrator" when I try to enable
the XP firewall, and I am not hooked up to a network. I
am only dealing with one computer with one connection to
the Internet.

Any tips on how to overcome this error and enable my
Windows XP firewall is greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance for the help. Cliff.

Click Start, run, type "Services.msc"
Enable the following services and set it to Automatic.

1. Application layer gateway
2. Network Connections
3. Network Local Awareness
4. Plug Play
5 .Telephony
6. Remote access connection manager.

Now, enable ICF.

Thanks for the tip, Ramesh. I have set all the services
you mentioned to "automatic" as you suggested, then I
restarted my computer. However, I still receive the
original error message when attempting to activate the
Windows XP firewall. Any further tips are apprecited.
Thanks, Ciff.

I run XP Pro but I encountered the same error. I
uninstalled file and print sharing then reinstalled after
connection sharing was enabled. I might have rebooted in
the middle but it should help.
