XP File Access Denied

I have XP Home edition on which I am the administrator. I copied a large
number of files from a cd that was written using INCD from Nero. These
files are marked READONLY, which is, I take it, not unusual. But I am
unable to change that READONLY status. I cannot modify or delete the files
in any way. In fact, when I try to look at the folder I am told that Access
Is Denied.

Any insights out there is XP Land?

I have exactly the same problem under XP Pro (see my
post "can't delete files") !!

I'd really like to know how to get rid of these files
without resorting to reformatting the logical drive.

Have you tried using ATTRIB?

In the Windows command prompt, type CD\ to put you in the root directory,
Type: ATTRIB -S -H -R (folder name)\*.*

Then Edit what you need.

Thanks for the idea. I tried it but got Access Denied again. Maybe
this is a clue -- when I try to open an MSAccess database in that
directory, at first it gives me the message (invalid path) then when I
try again it tells me the database is open by another user.

Seems to me that XP is a deeply confused operating system and may
require extensive therapy.

I will be grateful for any additional ideas. This is a BIG directory
on a small laptop drive

I too had this problem when copying and writing files to a cd - could not change, delete or do anything but look at the file - phone up Windows XP support who told me that i would need to copy and write files to a CD-RW cd (cd rewriteable disc) not a CD-R (cd recordable disc) as the recordable only ever records information and is also a read-only file rewriteables can be altered, deleted, copied, etc properties changed (i.e. read only, archive etc.

Hope this is of help to you
