1) You cannot use a fax modem to fax whilst you're online - just as you
can't use the phone and internet at the same time.

2) You can't fax with a DSL/satellite/cable connection.

I have a DSL connection and I can send faxes!

Then one of the following is true: -

1) You have a regular fax modem plugged into the other side of a DSL
filter

2) You're using an internet fax service, such as eFax

3) You have a fax machine plugged into the other side of a DSL filter

Have I missed anything?

You *CANNOT* send faxes using a DSL 'modem' as faxing requires direct access
to a phone line.

Yes I have a regular fax modem to send faxes on the DSL line. I was merely
responding to your first post in this thread and I quote "1) You cannot
use a fax modem to fax whilst you're online - just as you
can't use the phone and internet at the same time."
However I do concur with the following " You *CANNOT* send faxes using a DSL
'modem' as faxing requires direct access
to a phone line."

Thanks,
Rick

I apologise, that was my fault for not being explicit. The OP didn't say
whether he was online using DSL (with an analogue fax modem attached via a
filter) or dial-up. If the latter, and assuming only one phone line, it
would be impossible to be online and fax simultaneously, as the phone
line/modem are already tied up with the internet, just like one cannot send
a fax and make a phone call at the same time from a multifunctional unit
attached to one phone line.

Two phone lines - one for the phone and one for the fax, perfectly possible.
However, to be online and faxing at the same time would require two modems
and two phone lines.

Is that clearer?
