I have been using the built-in fax function in XP for a year and, all of a
sudden, I can't receive a fax. I get an message in the fax console that an
error occurred while receiving the fax but there is no information about the
error. In one case, the sender of the fax received a message that the fax
transmission went through okay.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the fax service but still can't get it to
work.

I'm using XP Home Edition and have installed all service packs and updates.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

You're the only one that might be able to provide a clue, since we have no
reports so far of the fax service just deciding not to work for no reason.
Any configuration changes to your system that come to mind?

No, not that I can think of. Last week, I was having some problems sending
faxes. I thought it was a problem at the receiving end but now I'm
wondering if it's related.

I'll try uninstalling it again, and re-installing it after a shutdown. I
seem to remember doing that once before. The real mystery is why the sender
received a message that the transmission was received. It makes me wonder
how many other people sent a fax and received an OK message and now think I
have received their fax when in fact, I haven't. Oh well!

Thanks for your help.

There seem to be a lot of glitches with fax transmission with this software.
About the only way to track them down is to log the transmissions.
