I have an internet explorer problem. I have windows xp, and I'm suddenly
having trouble accessing most sites. A box states..." Microsoft Internet
Explorer-Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Site.-------.Operation
Aborted". This prompts me to close the box and I'm led through a series of
Internet Options settings to check security, privacy, etc. All of which I
have set on default as usual. This box appears and/or the page I'm trying
to access is flashing white with the hourglass flickering, and I'm forced to
alt/ctrl/delete and end the task manually. I ran Norton Antivirus and have
no virus. I thought the problem might be my modem or ISP, but my internet
provider has walked me through all the numbers and everything is correct.
Dell has walked me through all tedious troubleshooting options , and they
concluded that I have to re-install my system software completely as the
Internet Explorer program is corrupt or damaged. Is there any other way to
solve this problem without a complete system re-install? Thanks, -Jody.

when is this happen, how about trying windows restore?

when is this happen, how about trying windows restore?

I would imagine he is trying to keep his system, settings and
saved files/folders intact and unmolested.

He also gave a very precise and detailed description regarding his problem.
Pointed out that he has undergone
rigarous troubleshooting with the cp's manufacturing as well as his
network-provider.

Sorry if I sound rude, but answering a legit post with "Try system restore"
and "When is this happen" seems a little lame. Kinda like driving by a guy
with engine trouble and yelling out "Did you try buying a new car".

No offense.

Sorry I can't help Kurt, but good luck. Hang in there and keep checking back
cause this forum is usually pretty good.

Note the time when the problem occurs and have a look in the Application
Event Log and the System Event Log using the Event Viewer program (see the
Admin tools). You should see a list of mostly harmless event and warnings
but look for one around the time of the problem marker "error" with a red
mark. If there are several look for one that occurs first and around the
time you had the problem.

If you double click on the error a new small window will open containg some
more technical data. There is button on the right of this new window that
you can press to copy the contents of that error message to the clipboard.
This allows you to paste the text into a new posting on this news group for
example. eg:

There is also a link in that window that _sometimes_ leads to more
information at a microsoft website.

If the errors says something like "the faulting module was <name>" it can
sometimes be worth doing a google search on that.

If you do need to repair Internet Explorer it might be worth trying to do
this by download the latest version.
