XP Error Message

I have perhaps a dozen desktop shortcuts pointing to specific web sites that
I frequent:

When I click on a shortcut icon, i get a Stop audible and and dropdown box
that says "Windows can not find http://www.xxxxx.com. Make sure you typed
the namecorrectly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the START
button and then click search."

Then almost instantly the proper web-page appears. In other words, Windows
is, indeed, finding the site and returning it to my screen. Each time the
above message must be cleared off, which is an inconvenience.

Does anyone know how I can disable this warning from appearing, since it's a
bogus warning?

Sounds like a common case of malware to me.
