XP End of Life?

Just read an article where Balmer says they may keep XP around a bit longer
if they believe there is a need/market.

I know many who given the choice of upgrade to Vista or keep XP, keep XP. I
know a few who purchased boxes with Vista and "down graded" to XP.

MS Wakeup, many are happy with XP and what it offers. Hopefully SP3 will
not break something and force us to Vista.

*shrug* Each their own.

Vista may turn out to be Windows ME with more marketing.

I know many who have stuck with Vista. I know a few who purchased a machine
with XP and later "upgraded" to Vista. I also know your examples.
Amazing - maybe we know some of the same people!

Not sure what you are trolling for - this discussion is already likely going
on in a heated manner between people with different opinions elsewhere.
Perhaps you should just find one of those and fan the flame there? *grin*

I just installed the final version (RTM) of SP3 on my
old Dell Inspiron 8200 running Windows XP. The
installation was completed in about 25 minutes and
no adverse issues were encountered.

However, I much prefer using my HP Pavilion a1748x
desktop that came with Windows Vista Premium Edition
preinstalled. It has always performed flawlessly and all
my programs work great. Now with Vista SP1 installed,
it performs even better!

I would never contemplate installing the old Windows XP
operating system on a new computer. My choice is Vista!

Do not confuse "end of marketing and active support life" with "end of
usable life of the product".

Just because Steve Ballmer has decided to discontinue the retail
marketing of Windows XP that does not mean that the usability of the
existing copies of Windows XP will be affected in any way. The
installed Windows XP will remain fully usable for an unlimited time.

The only limiting factors will be the unavailability of XP Updates for
such things and new hardware components and the possible eventual
ending of XP Activation response.
