I'm a newbie to XP Pro and now need to activate my copy,
however, when I installed it it set up a dual boot system
with my existing W98SE. Can anyone tell me how I remove
the dual boot so I am only using XP? Do I need to wipe
the disk and reinstall from scratch? If so will I have to
activate XP again or not

Thanks in advance for any help given

Hallo morgan,
I'm a newbie to XP Pro and now need to activate my copy,
however, when I installed it it set up a dual boot system
with my existing W98SE. Can anyone tell me how I remove
the dual boot so I am only using XP?
It is covered in this
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q289022
knowledge base article. I think you can just remove all win98 stuff in
c:\boot.ini
Do I need to wipe
the disk and reinstall from scratch?
I don't think so, but I do think that a fresh install on a clean
harddisk is a good thing to start when using a new OS. Remember to
backup you data first.
If so will I have to
activate XP again or not
Yes, if you reinstall, you'll have to reactivate, but don't let that
stop you. Reactivating works like a bliss.

Thiis is exacly what I wish to do at some uncertain future date...<g>
Do let us know how it went!

TIA
