To all,
I'm upgrading a client from a NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 server network. They
are retiring the NT server and purchased a Dell Poweredge 16005c server with
W2K server preloaded. In transferring several folders to the new server, I
copied a 1.35 gig folder containing over 7000 files from the old NT domain
to a laptop running XP pro. I joined the laptop to the new servers domain
and began coping the files to the new server. About a third the way through,
I got a "network not available" error. In thinking the laptop was having the
problem, I tried a new Dell workstation running XP pro and got the same
error. I then used a crossover cable to connect the PC directly to the
server thus bypassing the switch and still got the error. I found I can
copy about 1/5 of the files at a time without error. This happens when
copying from or to the server. Dell is replacing the motherboard with the
embedded NIC but also said XP has had some connectivity problems with W2K
domains.
Has anyone experienced any problems like this. I never encountered anything
like this with W2K pro connected to a W2K network.
Thanks for your input.
