Hi there,

I am having a serious problem here:
We are using an W2k SP4 TerminalServer, so far so good. All HomeOffice Users
can connect to the server and work with its ressources. The only thing, that
dont work is connecting a printer to a Win XP Workstation.

All other Workstations -mostly W2k- get their printers connected without any
problems so they can e.g. print mails from Exchange on their printer at
home. The question is:
Is it possible to install a printer-driver designed for Windows XP on a W2k
SP4 TerminalServer machine ?!?
If so, how can I do that ?!?

Cheers,
Joshua

In almost every case, installing any type of printer
driver onto your terminal server isn't a good idea.
Drivers have special privileges on your system to access
hardware, however, if those drivers crash, like many do,
they can cause your system to become unstable.

My question to you is, what type of printer are they
using? Are there any eventlog entries on the terminal
server that refer to printing that can help out here?

Hi Matthew,

Why not ?!?
The Home Office Users do have to print their mails @ home, so I need the
printer drivers installed on the TS Machine.....

Dont have any problems with the TS till now and there are several printer
drivers installed on it but thx for hint.

In this certain case we are talking about HP DJ 990cxi - but dont matter....

I find out the following:
Seems to be a general problem with W2k Server - I didnt manage to get ANY
XP-Driver running underneath a W2k Server, nor within the LAN neither via
TS. As most XP drivers are combined with the 2k drivers, the W2k Server
ALWAYS installs the 2k drivers, I have no ability to install the XP driver !

So if somebody can give me a hint ?!?

Cheers,
Joshua
