I recently installed a 40 gig Maxtor hd to upgrade from my previous 20
gig also Maxtor hard drive.

My computer has a Abit KT7 Raid motherboard, although I dont have Raid
installed, just the 2 drives. They are on 2 distinct and independent
channels, both configured as Master. There is no problem with haveing 2
master disks on 2 distinct channels because when I boot up from a Win 98 se
setup disk, FDISK can see them both. (In case you are wondering, it didnt
before until I switched the boot disk select fom the BIOS)

However, when running under XP, XP cant see the 2nd disk. The 2nd disk is
the old Maxtor 20 gig hd. I went to Control Panel, Administrative Tools,
Comptuer Management, Disk Management, and still cant see it.

I tried various techniques and method but nothing helps. Any ideas or
suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

The Hard Drive maybe locked out, as in it only maybe seen
by one operating system. Im not totally sure of your
situation, but if it shows in the Windows XP setup, then
it should be there, if not it has been locked out. There
are several ways to import it, but im not sure how to do
this in XP yet. If that is not it, it also maybe that
your motherboard does not support a hard drive on the
second channel (i find very unlikely with you Motherboard
but it may be true). So try using it as a slave on the
master channel, and if there is a divice there, remove it
and just plug in that hard drive there.

I've read here that you can't have more than one active partition on your
computer. In that case, at least PartitionMagic can help you, as XP itself
cannot.
