i installed win xp home edition 2600 this morning hoping
it would be better than win98, i was sorely dissapointed.
Oh it doesnt stuff up as much and you hardly have to
restart But xp doesnt recognize my sound and video cards.
In the adapter in display properties all my adapter
information is unavailable. In device manager it has my
video card as Video controller(vga compatable)in the group
others. My Soundcard is also in this group, it is called
Multimedia Audio control, both of there drivers are not
installed, i have tryed the update in there properties but
it just searches for awhile and doesnt find anything and
when i downloaded the latest video drivers they didnt
change anything. If anyone can help me please post a
reply or email me. Thank you

How about going into the Device Manager, removing the devices then letting
Windows try to recognize them again during the restart? It could be your
devices are not supported by XP though, I don't know. Can't tell without
knowing what cards are giving you these problems.

Never, ever, install an operating system thinking it will solve problems on
your current setup, not only will it likely not do that, it probably will
make matters worse.

That said, place the XP CD in the drive, when the setup screen appears,
select "Check system compatibility." If it doesn't say your soundcard and
graphics cards are not compatible with XP, then try the card manufacturer's
websites for XP compatible drivers for those cards.

If they have no such drivers, you need to get new cards as your current
cards would appear to not be compatible because the manufacturer's are no
longer supporting them in XP.

Windows XP does not have ALL drivers included. Some drivers need to be
installed from the manufacturer's website.
My Radeon ATI 9000 is not recognised in windows because its newer than
XP!! As is my Soundcard.

Did you note down what cards you had installed before installing
Windows XP? Did you run the Upgrade Advisor (System Check from XP CD)
first?
