I copied my data files to a DVD-RW using Vista Home Premium. I then
installed XP but it didn't read the data that was copied there by Vista.
This prompted me to reinstall Vista.
How can I copy this data using Vista and be assured that XP will read it
when I install XP? I have only one system and don't want a dual boot system.

Thanks, James

If the data is important and its reproduction needs to be basically
universal, the better way to preserve it is to actually burn it to
CD-R or DVD-R instead of "dropping" it into a CD-RW or DVD-RW disc.

Excuse my ignorance I'm new to this media.
In dragging and dropping doesn't Vista burn the data to the disc?
I thought any time you put data to a CD/DVD it is burnt to
the disc. Any way, I'm assuming I need third party
software to accomplish this?

Thanks,
James

It all starts innocently enough. Shiny new feature.

Rumblings of indigestion.

"Simmering Issues With Burning Issues With Vista"

"2048 bytes per sector UDF" ?

The article that prompted the "burning issues" article:

UDF versions the disk could have been burned with. Version 2.01
is the one you want for WinXP - according to the second picture.
And assuming there isn't a problem with 2048 bytes per sector.

There is probably more to this story, and you can write the chapter as
our intrepid beta tester... To be continued. :-)

I think basically the only way you'll know whether the Vista burned
disk will work in WinXP, is to try it.
