XP doesn't detect my cd and my dvd drives anymore!

I use Windows XP Home SP1.

I have a cd burner and a dvd reader (both LG) and they
both worked well for almost a year, but now, it's been a
week since Win XP doesn't detect them (there aren't
in 'My Computer') even though I know they "physically"
work well because I can boot with a bootable cd with
either of them.

I think their drivers have been modified by a third party
software (I know it's not a virus), but I don't know
which one. I tried to update them, but it didn't change
anything. I also tried to download the newest drivers
from the manufacturer's official website and install them
but it still didn't change anything.

The troubleshooting help is useless and the system
restore doesn't seem to work (any date I pick, it seems
to work at first but once it restarts, it says that
windows can't restore anything :-/ )

Could someone give me some help???

Thnaks in advance

There is a link at the following website to tell you how to get your cd
devices to appear again. The site also contains many tips, tricks and
tweaks. Really cool site. You should browse through the rest of the site
while you are there.
