XP does not recognize the correct size of hard drive

How much of the Drive does not show up? If you have an older system you
may need a Bios Update
and if the Drive is larger than 137G you need to install the SP1
windows xp update.

Could be the difference between size measured in powers of 10 versus powers
of 2, for example powers 0f 10 means 1Mb is 1,000,000 whereas powers of 2
means 1Mb is 1,048,576

Hard drive manufacturers like to use powers of 10 but once installed and
formatted your computer uses powers of 2, which can give a total size
disparity.

hard drives are sold with the nearest round figure to
their capacity ,EG: a 40gb hard drive may show up as
39.5gb,if this is your case then ignore it
