XP does not detect LPT2

All,

I need to have two printer at the same time available and connected to my
PC running with XP Home edition.

It seems XP is not able to detect LPT2. As a consequence I can not print
via this port, while the printer is working fine when connected to LPT1.

Have you ever had this problem before? How have you solved this?

The strange thing is that the card is well detected.
What is even stranger is that it tries to download a driver from the CD
but that at the end I get an error message saying that the 'installation
failed' and that the 'hardware may not work properly'.

This is a simple card with one simple LPT port.

Any ideas?

Well, it was telling you the truth! ;-)
This is a simple card with one simple LPT port.

Any ideas?

Try putting the card in another slot. This may require you to uninstall it
to get rid of the current settings.

Missed the rest of the thread but if the card is "simple" might it not
have an option to be set up as LPT2? There should be jumpers to configure
it.

If not, try using it as LPT1 and going into your PCs BIOS config and set
the onboard BIOS to LPT2, ie change the setting, if possible, to 278
instead of 378. You may need to play with IRQ settings too.

The onboard LPT might work with any IRQ or even work with a shared noe,
but the one on the card may be so simple that it only works with the
"official" Settings.

For reference, the "official" settings are:

LPT1 - IRQ7 and i/o 378
LPT2 - IRQ5 and i/o 278

There's also an LPT3 but that's rarely used and might not even be
supported now.
