I installed Directx 9.1 and after that my machine will
not boot up. I see the Home Edition logo and then all of
sudden the machine goes dead and the screen blanks out
almost as though the power to the machine has been
turned off.

I can boot up using the safe mode without any problems.

I tried doing a restore but that does not seem to take
any effect as when it reboots I am back with the same
issue. My machine was working fine till the time I
installed directx 9.1 yesterday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

Try going to safe mode and delete Directx 9.1 and see if that will work, if
it does that file may be infected
Hope this works, Bill

It's possible something on your system is not compatible with Direct X9.
The only way to remove it is to use System Restore to take you back to a
time prior to when you installed it. Since you cannot boot the system to
the XP desktop, try doing this from Safe Mode. Boot the system, start
tapping F8, at the menu select Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, it should
immediately offer you the option of going to System Restore.
