XP disc burning problems

Recently and for no good reason my CDRW stopped working with windows
xp's own disc burning utility and with an old version of easycd I had.
However it still worked with the cumbersome Nero. I like Nero for
burning audio files etc but not just for drag and dropping data files to
keep them safe on a disc. If i tried to use the windows burner it just
said there was no blank disc in the drive.
As the drive is two years old i decided to get a new one and lo and
behold the same thing, I can burn using Nero (Express seems better than
the old one) but not with windows own burner.
I can read discs from the drive fine.
any ideas what can be going on?

My suggestion is to get rid of EasyCD. This is one of the worst piece of
software ever sold.
Once you've gotten rid of it, you'll be able to drag and drop files onto the
CD, etc.
My Dell had the same problem.

Okay, this seems to be what most people think and as it's use has only ever been
secondary I'll do it. Thanks.

Easycd gone and drive working fine... thanks :O)

Easy CD creator/DirectCD if u install it
properly, will work properly (V5+ OR 6+).

Most ppl who hate it, dont know how to use it!

Or they've installed V4, which isnt
compatible with XP. (One of the updates
might work, and then they find out V4 screws things
totally! (A bit late, after theyve already installed it).

BUT it's better to get V5, or 6.

Or they dont know that theyre meant to
turn off XP's crap builtin burning, since it
tends to screw things up even more!

You can also drop and drag with CD Creator
6 (Roxio Drop & Drag) on the desktop
and it goes straight to the CD. I run it on
3 PC's. Disabled XP's burning. And NEVER
has a prob with it.

Thanks Paul, though my main problem now seems to be with getting music cds to
eject after burning, which although everything is ticked in the correct places
won't happen.

I find Nero does Music cds fine Paul.

Just remember NOT to format the
CD, if you are burning MP3's to CD.

They dont need formatting in this case.

I'm pretty sure Nero ejects the CD, after
it has been burnt/finalised, once you
burn MP3's to CD.

What version of CD Creator do you have?

5 or 6? If you do use it?

I dont usually use the Drop and drag part
of it. As I prefer to make folders on CD and
copy files into them. So, at least I know what
the files are, that I've copied to the CD!
