XP Desktop Shrunk~ now w/extension sidecar

What the~! My desktop now is about 2/3 the original size
and it has an annoying sidebar added for the remaining
1/3! I want my background picture whole again!!! I have
no idea what I did, except somewhere the nVidia driver
also changed. I reinstalled it, but unable to restore
(tried several dates) to oldtime pic.
 
Hi,

1. Click Start | Run | Regedit.exe
2. Goto the following location:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\shellex\ExtS
hellFolderViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}

3. Select the key "{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}" and choose File >
Export
4. Save the file as enable.reg
5. Post the attachment in this newsgroup

After backing it up, try the fix below:
Remove Common Tasks from Desktop
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_commtask_desktop.htm

*Please don't forget to post the .reg key said above. (for testing purpose).
Apply the fix after that.

Tried your suggestion... however, the select key # is a
blank in my registry.... mine just says "default"!
