Hi all,
I would like to know: if there is a specific location – folder or registry
key in Windows XP, where the desktop icons position is located. If I change
their position in the desktop, how do they keep this setting after rebooting
the pc?

Best regards
kersob

David, I have some 50 plus icons on my desktop. The
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop"
item doesn't show the name or location of all of my icons. There are times
that the desktop icons get scrambled and I need to restore them to their
original positions. How will this registry key help if not all icons are
listed? Back in the days of Windows 3.1, there was a file that stored the
icons and their screen position. All we needed to do was to copy the file to
a safe place and if the desktop screwed up, just copy the file back. Is
there anything like this in XP?

Google for a freeware program called "Icon Sort."

Does a great job keeping your desktop organized..
