Having a problem with my desktop (Windows XP Home Edition 2003). My
computer locks completely at RANDOM times. I must hold the power
button in to reboot. It even happens sometimes upon booting from the
hard drive (i.e. will not boot OS). I have reformatted and swapped
RAM, each with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

What symptoms indicate the machine is locked up? It
could be busy doing something normal. Suggest you open
the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete when you
suspect it is locked up. If the Task Manager opens it is
not locked up and if you click the Performance TAB you
will be able to see the percentage of CPU usage. If the
CPU usage is near 100%, something is occupying the
processor and it appears as a lock up. Click the
Processes TAB and look to see which process is occupying
the processor.
