I've heard there's a version of XP called 'Corporate' that
doesn't require manual activation - is this true, and is
it available to the public?

Alan

It is configured so that corporations do not need to keep track of
activating hundreds or thousands of copies of Windows when the potential
exists that they will not be connected to the Internet, and it would be
costly for their support staff to spend time on the phone activating each
copy.

No, it's not available to the public (hence, 'corporate').

Yes this is true!
And U don't have to activate! And Microsoft likes this
software very much! And U can't buy it in a software
store because???

The only version available to the public called "Corporate" is a pirated VL
[Volume License] version. You can purchase a 5 license VL from Microsoft
that does not require manual activation, but each computer is still limited
to one install per license.

The "pirated version" of Windows XP is an illegal copy that
will not accept the critical SP1 update. Don't waste your time
looking for it.

| Ah, okay. Guess I'll look for that pirated version then.

Unless you happen to download a hack...

Don't be fooled into think those will continue to work.

True, but the next hack probably will. If not then the
next, etc.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, there's thousands of
hackers/crackers/12-year-old-schoolkids-with-nothing-
better-to-do out there eagerly awaiting the next anti-
piracy technology so they can break it and make a name for
themselves...

Actually, there is no such thing as WinXP "Corporate Edition."
That is a term applied exclusively to pirated (iow, stolen) copies of
the Volume Licensed WinXP Pro by the "warez" aficionados.
