I found some spyware on my computer and ran Ad-Aware. After doing so, and rebooting, my computer will no longer connect to the Internet through my broadband connection. Nor will it let me talk to the router. I try typing its network address, but the computer seems unable to talk to anything on the network. What could have caused this? How can I fix it?

One more thing: When I try running the ipconfig /renew command, I get an error message:

"An operation was attempted on something which was not a socket."

What the heck does that mean?

It means that your computer's TCP/IP stack has become corrupted. Here
are three alternatives that might fix the problem:

A. Have Ad-Aware un-do the changes that it made.

B. Use System Restore to go back in time to before the problem
occurred:

C. Try this TCP/IP repair procedure, frequently posted in this news
group by Ken Wickes of Microsoft:

1. Backup and delete the following registry keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

2. Reboot

3. Go to the network connections folder, right click the icon for
your network connection, and select properties.

4. Click install, choose "protocol", and click "add..."

5. Click "Have Disk...", enter "\windows\inf", click OK

6. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK

7. When the process in complete, reboot
