I have a XP Pro client in a NT 4 domain and I have problems connecting to
this client from the other clients in the domain. There are two computers in
the domain that have no problems connecting to this client and it's the PDC
running NT4 and another client running XP Pro.
All clients have static reservations in the DHCP and they are all in the
DNS.
If I run 'nbtstat -a <hostname>' on the PDC or the other XP client, where
<hostname> is the hostname of the problematic XP client, I get a correct
response. If I do the same from any other client (running Win2k and WinNT4
btw) it fails. Clients have NetBios nodetype 0x8.
The client info is found in the WINS database and of course in the DNS
database.
How come I cannot resolve the NetBios name of this XP client from any other
machine except other XP machines and the PDC?
