XP client, 98 server: is it possible?

I have my Windows 98 desktop set up as the server on my
home network. I would now like to configure my Windows
XP Professional laptop as a client on this network. The
XP Network Setup Wizard seems to make the assumption that
the XP machine will be the server.

Has anyone tried this configuration?

What do you mean by "server", Michelle? The only "server" option that
I'm aware of in the Network Setup Wizard is to have XP share its
Internet connection with other computers. Are you seeing something
else?

Don't run XP's wizard on any other computer that's already connected
to the network, even though it tells you to.

.

All I mean by "server" is that the Windows 98 desktop is
the machine that is physically connected to the printer
and broadband modem, and also has the Microsoft Broadband
Networking software installed on it. It will be the
machine in our house that is always on.

I want to add my Windows XP laptop to this home network,
and I guess I was sort of thinking of the laptop as
a "client" in my home network. I ran the Windows XP
Network Setup Wizard, using the same workgroup name that I
used for my desktop. But my desktop computer does not
show up as one of the workgroup computers on the XP
machine. I can't see the XP machine from the Win 98
desktop, either. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!
