the XP cd for free. is this true?

If Windows XP came preinstalled on your Toshiba laptop,
then you'll have to contact Toshiba support and request a
replacement CD.

Welcome to Toshiba Support!

If you got restore disks with the laptop then you'll have to convince
Toshiba to replace them.

Since your computer manufacturer supplied the original disk (an OEM copy of
XP) that's who you need to contact for a replacement. Don't know whether
it's free or not - that depends on how Toshiba handles replacement disks
for their customers.

You will have to contact Toshiba to replace the CDs. No, it will NOT be
free. The only time the disks are replaced free is when the disks are
defective. Since you lost yours (through no fault of Toshiba), then it
would follow that it would be inappropriate to expect free replacement of
your restore disk set.
