XP CD Not Readable

I could not find a direct contact to Microsoft without
having to pay...so I'm posting this in hopes I can receive
assistance.

A few months ago I purchased two copies of XP Home
Addition upgrade for two of my home computers. One I
loaded at the time of purchase and it worked fine. The
other I could not load until I got the other computer set-
up, which took me until now (other priorities). When I
attempted to Upgrade from Windows 98, I kept receiving the
system error that it could not read the CD, and the auto
install kept loading over itself. I have used the CD Rom
installing other software so it is not the CD Rom. I
tried cleaning the CD, but did not work.

My problem is that I am well past the window of return
with the retailer. How can I get another CD?

I presume you are in the US?
Here is the MS "MoneyBack Guarantee" toll-free number for retail products:
1-888-673-8624 .If they can't help, they might direct your call
appropriately.

Why not try the first CD (the one that worked) on the second machine,
but use the product key from the second(bad) CD. As long as they are
both upgrades that should work.
