XP Causes DNS Error In Win98?

I have a cable modem connected to a Linksys router with 4
ports. One port connects to my computer running Windows
XP, another to my sisters computer running Windows 98,
and two ports are open. Recently I unplugged my sisters
computer from the router and plugged in an additional XP
machine in its place. Later I removed the XP machine,
but when I plugged my sisters computer back in I lost
internet access and recieved a "page cannot be displayed
error" everytime I typed in a URL.

The computer is still being assigned the correct IP
address according to winipcfg, and I can ping microsoft
at 63.211.236.244, but when I type in "ping
www.microsoft.com" I get an unknown server error.

In addition, when I connect to the internet via a dail up
modem, I still get the "page cannot be displayed" error
message when attempting to visit any website.

Apparantly the DNS settings somehow got messed up.

Any ideas how to fix them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Brian,

Pinging www.microsoft.com is not a good test because ICMP is blocked on the
microsoft servers. Try www.yahoo.com instead.
Compare the DNS server setting on the Windows 98 box to the one on
theworking XP box. It should be the same server.

Thanks,
