Hello,

The card, drivers, everything was working fine until I tried to install SP2.
My machine went to the blue screen of death and I had to spend a lot of time
to get it back to running condition.

Everything works on that machine now, except XP can't find my graphics card.

In device manager my card is listed with the yellow exclamation mark. Going
to the cards properties it says that the drivers are loaded but windows
can't find the device: error code 41.

No mind you this exact configuration worked fine before SP2 crashed my
system.

I reinstalled the drivers numerous times and put 3 different cards in the
machine and loaded the latest drivers for each, but the same condition is
present.

I was on the phone with microsoft "India" for 7 hours and they are useless
for anything other than minor /well known problems. They had me do the same
things over and over again without listening to me when I explained that we
had already done that several times before.

I am convinced that it is not a hardware problem.

I already did a repair installation.

I feel that a setting (can't believe that there is one that I haven't tried)
or a corrupt file.

I don't want to reinstall windows as I have too many patched programs on
that machine.

Question: What files/drivers or other settings could interfere with windows
realizing that the card is there?

Thanks in advance !!!!

If it shows in Device manager win knows its there.
Where did you obtain drivers from?
What make/model is your graphics device?
What is the make/model of either your PC or motherboard (I assume its not a
Laptop)

Have you installed or reinstalled the motherboard drivers?

Hello... Thanks for the reply!

The graphics card is a Radeon 9600 Pro. I have had it in this machine for
about a year or so. I used the drivers that came with the board and the
newest ones from the website to try and revive the system and resolve the
problem. So I replicated how it was when I first installed it, and how it
was just before the crash.

I hear you, if it's in DM then windows should know it's there, but error 41
states that it can't find the device. Of course MS hasn't always (being
kind) used a truly accurate error code for every problem it encounters.

The MB is ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, quite the board a couple of years ago.

I read ahead and GreenieLeBrun asked if I had reinstalled the MB drivers,
and I feel really foolish because that's about the only thing that I can
think of that I didn't do, so I'm going to try it tomorrow.

I'll let you guys know what I come up with... but please any further
suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Again!!

Hello,

I'm embarrassed that I totally overlooked doing that. I figured that the
repair installation would have replaced those drivers ???

7 hours on the phone with MS didn't get that suggestion either.

Tomorrow I will try that and get back to you.

Thanks for the feedback!
