My ipconfig output is looks the same except for chip set,
et. al. That is, the behavior is the same.

Sorry, I missed this message. I track threads I'm responding to so I don't
lose messages, but when the subject or thread changes I can miss them as I
did this time. Please "Reply Group" (in Outlook Express) to this message or
your original ones so I don't lose the message.

I've got some more questions for you:
1) Did you do a "Repair" install of XP when you reinstalled it?
2) Did you apply all of the Windows Updates again, post install
3) Do you know if your router is configured to only give out a limited
number of IP addresses? (If your ISP set it up, this is probably the case)
