My XP PC has recently strated to take much longer to boot
up. I accessed the bootlog file (NTBTLOG.TXT) which did
show the events but no time data on loading or delays.
How can I get the time information?

This functionality was replaced by the downloadable tool "bootvis.exe",
which, it seems, you must now contact Microsoft support to get a copy of.

Searching around for it, I found an error report relating to bootvis
failing on Pentium 4's. Rather than fix bootvis, it looks like Microsoft
decided to remove it and/or offer it only on a pay basis.

On page:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/bootvis.mspx

Microsoft states that end users aren't supposed to try to improve
performance but should contact their vendor from whom they purchased the PC.

If you are a developer, you might be able to purchase it from them, but
that's not clear from the info page...

....wait...<googling>...
See http://www.soft32.com/download_19687.html .

(I, too, miss the times in the boot log).
