xp boot

My xp will not boot correctly. It will reboot over and over again. I get the csreen that says that windows could not boo
correctly. With the options to boot in safe mode or the last known good settings but I can't move to any of the options.
 
I have the exact same problem. Just started going bad yeaterday, and finally the result today. I am typing this on another computer.
 
Hi Dave B,

Try to boot from the recovery console and type this command
chkdsk /R

It will look for damaged sectors and recuperate information. It may
take a while, though.

Type chkdsk /? to see all the possibilities

If no joy, you might consider a repair install, it will reinstall the
OS, you will have to reinstall programs, but data should be OK.
