XP boot up problem

I left my puter on last nite and woke up to a message that the puter had
tried to re-boot by itself but was unable to. The message states that there
is an error in the software and that I need to load DLL for kernal. It
further states that I should contact my support person.

What the heck is going on?

You should try to use the "Last Known Good Configuration" option on the safe
mode boot menu. During a restart, Press the F8 key rapidly during the 'black
screen' portion, right after the BIOS screen, during startup.

It may have installed an update (would be the right night for it) and had
trouble.
It may have had a hard disk drive failure.
It may have had a power issue.
It may have a memory issue.

Did you turn it off and turn it back on (unplug from power, plug it back in,
turn it on) and see what happens?

If you are getting an error message - please quote that word-for-word.
