The other day, after a couple of months of flawless operation on a new pc
with WINXP HOME (fully updated with all patches), I rebooted my computer (as
I do several times a day; a habit from WIN 98) and it only got as far as the
background of the desktop: no icons and no taskbar. I could do a
CTRL-ALT-DEL to see the Task Manager, and I could restart that way, but do
nothing else. This happened several times, although once it never even got
that far, but stopped right on the black screen before the "Loading personal
settings..." screen comes up.
I was able to go into Safe Mode and do a restore, and everything is fine,
but it really bugs me that this happened, and I wonder what I should look
for to keep it from happening again.
Thanks,
Dave
